Mixed Martial Arts Training in Oceanside, Ca

Oceanside's #1 Boxing, JIU JITSU, Muay Thai  & Self Defense MMA Training & Fitness center

Coastal Combat's Mission:
To provide the most technical training that’s available; and to teach it at a competitive level. That is our foundation.

Who We Are:
Our gym is made up of a group of martial artists who have a real love and passion for the martial arts and everything that comes with it. Honor. Loyalty. Respect.

There is a lifestyle to what we do here and it’s all about passing down the knowledge that we’ve learned from our teachers and providing it in its purest form to our students. This way at the end of the day when it comes time to compete, we’re able to do so at the highest level without worrying or having the fear of being unprepared to do so.

Our Goal:
At Coastal Combat, what we do is provide the highest level of technical MMA training in Oceanside and greater San Diego County California possible so that when it comes time to fight; whether that means defending your family or yourself in a situation where there’s no other choice or whether that means that you are doing it at a competitive level; we’re going to make sure that you have the proper tools that you need. The tools that have been passed down from our teachers that we’ve received training from. These teachers are from all around the world: Japan, Brazil and Thailand.

Our trainers have taken many trips to all of these different countries, training with the best in their home land and then as they come over to America, training with them here.

Our mixed martial arts training philosophy

What We Do:
We train six days a week in future hope of competing. Does that mean everyone here has to compete at Coastal Combat? No. That’s not what it means, but it does mean that the level of training we’ll be doing is that of someone who’s preparing to fight.

Is Our Training Dangerous?
We use proper techniques and training to make sure that injuries are minimal. Meaning that anyone can do this. But, when coming here, know that our number one priority is learning technique and not necessarily getting the best workout in of the night; although that may happen. That’s not our goal. Our goal at the end of the day is to become the best martial artist that we can.

Our Core Values

Our core values all start with a foundation of Respect. If you respect someone mutually and they respect you then everything else falls into place; our two other core values of loyalty and honor. We teach our students more than just martial arts. We teach them to treat people with kindness throughout the day. These are all things, whether we like it or not, when becoming Martial Artists, these things, these values, as we push ourselves to the limit, we realize the respect that we should have for one another. When you are sitting there every day going through these combat situations, these technical fight situations, it puts you in a place where you can really learn the respect for human life and how fragile it is and how at the end of the day; in the grand scheme of things; all of these little issues that we have just don’t matter.

If we think that we’re having a tough day or tough time doing this or that, well that’s a lie because you can push further. What we want to do is to push our body to the limits while gaining technical training. Doing it all safely and by executing it that way, all of these things will come along.  This understanding is accomplished by just being around the guys at Coastal Combat in the way that we represent ourselves. Does that mean that just because our guys know how to fight they’re out there in the street bullying people? No, actually the opposite. That’s the last thing that happens to anyone in the martial arts because everyone in the martial arts can get bullied by someone else in the martial arts.

There’s always someone better, there’s always someone bigger, there’s always someone "badder". And actually, getting humbled in the gym, getting submitted and tapping out; or going to hard and getting hit back will let you know, “hey man, there’s always someone out there bigger, better, faster and stronger than me”, and that’s just the way it is. Those humbling experiences in the gym teach us to lead a respectful life. And they really help us to become better people and that’s why Coastal Combat is here. To teach the highest level of technical training possible and to be able to use it at a competitive level.

What mixed martial arts is

Mixed Martial Arts or MMA is a combination of martial arts all mixed in to be used in any type of combat situation that you would find yourself in. That means standing up on the feet; transitioning to a take down; going to the ground; working off the cage or fence. Once on the ground, maintaining positional control during through the process of wrestling. The goal is to have control of your position in order to be dominant; to throw strikes or to submit your opponent. So MMA is essentially a mix of all martial arts that we teach at our gym in Oceanside, CA. The main ones being: Muay Thai - the most effective martial arts striking or boxing - the use of the hands; Jiu Jitsu, the ground work, wrestling and take downs. In our facility located in Oceanside, California our MMA technique philosophy is built around getting to a good position to keep the fight in your control and not someone else’s.
Once again, that being in the cage or defending yourself as sometimes, whether we like it or not, some time in our life we might have to defend ourselves or our loved ones. At Coastal Combat, we only teach the most effective striking arts. We aren’t going to teach techniques that don’t work. There is no reason to waste time doing so.

martial arts training we provide

Boxing
Boxing is known as the sweet science. Boxing uses head movement, footwork, and all different types of punching combinations. But it all starts with the feet; much like with any martial art. If you don’t have a concrete stance; if your feet aren’t on solid ground; if your stance is not proper and you don’t’ have your feet right, you’re going to fall. Just like trying to build your house on sand…its’ just not going to work.

Boxing became popular in the United States back the 1800’s. It originally was bare knuckle boxing, but over time evolved. Boxing styles changed from underhand stances to; regular 50/50 stances; to the Philly Shell. It’s been modified and changed so many times over the centuries; not to mention it is one of the original martial arts. Goes back in time as far as wrestling.

Wrestling
Wrestling originated back in the times of the Greeks. The game of maintaining positional control. The original Olympic Sport.  It was and is all about positional control. Being able to take your opponent down at will or to stop your opponent from taking you down. To be able to win on the ground. Not be on your back, but to have a top position and to be able to change into more dominant positions until the fight is finished. It’s known as maybe one of the hardest sports in the world aside from mixed martial arts combined. Wrestlers work harder than just about any other sport that is known to man.

Muay Thai
Muay Thai is the art of eight limbs: punches, kicks, knees, elbows and then the clinch. There are also sweeps. Sweeping your opponent to the ground. Then there is clinch; one of the most important components of the game. The clinch involves maintaining control of your opponent while on the feet and manipulating the body or the head and/or to throw strikes or to throw your opponent on the ground. It’s a very traditional martial art that goes back to the Thai people having to protect themselves. Thai meaning “free”. Thailand is “Free land”. Muay meaning “box”. Muay Thai then means “free boxing” or “boxing free”. The reason the Thai people are known as the free people is because they were never conquered. They’ve been invaded by the Burmese, the Lao, and were never conquered. And they used the traditional martial art of Muay Thai – the art of eight limbs – to protect themselves. And still to this day they have never been conquered. That is the history of Muay Thai.

Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu originated in Japan through Judo. It was more of a soft martial art used as a way to take your opponent down very technically without having to use much force. It’s a technique that makes it so that a smaller person can manipulate and throw or take down an opponent and execute a quick submission. It started with Judo then Japanese Jiu Jitsu was formed and then the Brazilians took those techniques and made their own style of Jiu Jitsu. This Brazilian Jiu Jitsu style has become the most effective form of ground fighting as seen in the first Ultimate Fighting Championship when Royce Gracie won it in spite of being a much smaller man. He used submissions and was able to take control of fights. Jiu Jitsu is all about positional control submissions during fighting; take downs. It’s probably the most technical forms of all martial arts, having more moves and possibilities of moves compared to the other martial arts.

What students are saying about coastal combat

Coastal Combat has changed my life completely. Before I started this journey a year and a half ago I would just go to work, get off work, site down eat dinner, play video games maybe once in a while go to a bar with friends or family ,drink beers and pretty much do the same thing the next day. Nothing to really get me moving to improve or see what I could really do or to see what limits I could take myself to or break. I started to see I was missing something in my life that really meant something to me. The UFC gym was something just to get me moving at least I was moving and made some new friends along the way, but Coastal Combat opened that door completely. I now saw what I was missing my life; a team that had my back, coaches the didn’t give up on me when I was at my lowest an when I thought nothing could get better or that I sucked and thought I couldn’t match up to anyone else. Coastal Combat ignited my furnace to wanting to be better to wanting to believe in myself and gave me confidence in myself to believe if I trust my coaches and my team that always stands tall with me that I could take on any obstacle and metaphorical destroy it. Trust your coached and trust the process. The day will come when it is my turn to show what the process has given me and what Coastal Combated has shown me. My team is my fire to the furnace! - Tyler Marquez
To me, martial arts provides a great boost for both my physical and mental health. Regular gyms bore me to tears yet I had to stay active somehow to keep in shape, I already loved watching MMA, so actively training for it was a perfect fit. Mentally it serves as a great outlet for any negative emotions I may have throughout the week. While there aren’t many members yet, I appreciate the camaraderie of a small team. When the lasses are smaller the coaches are able to critique better and give more attention to what’s needed. Everyone is passionate and eager to learn. There are no egos and you can tell everybody wants to be there. I look forward to seeing Coastal Combat grow.” – Josh Gonzales
